Not all cell phones come with special applications, for connecting them to a computer. Furthermore, certain phones work with Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), which is completely different from the well known and popular GSM service. BitPim is designed specifically for CDMA cell phones and it is compatible with a large variety of makes and models. It allows you to manage a mobile phone's contacts book, media files, memos and more. You can also use this application to create new contacts, schedule tasks, create playlists and so on and send them to your mobile phone.

BitPim is distributed under a GNU General Public License, which means that you don't have to pay for the application. The setup file is roughly 11 MB and the installation procedure involves the usual stages, like selecting a destination path and a Start menu folder. You should also know that BitPim is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

The software provides support for various models of Motorola phones, Samsung, LG and others. You can select a make and model on BitPim's general settings panel. It automatically detects mobile phones, if they are connected to your computer, but you can also click a button, on the program's toolbar, to perform another scan. Data can be transferred between BitPim and a connected cell phone, in both directions, with different options, located on the same toolbar.

Phone book entries, memos, tasks, SMS messages, your call history and other details are organized in a tree structure, on the left side of the interface. Besides viewing the retrieved data, you may create new entries as well. When creating new contacts, you may add a broad range of information, from names and phone numbers to email address web links and personal notes. You can also decide to associate contacts with specific ringtones, images or to store them in the phone's memory or on your SIM card.

If you decide to associate a contact with a ringtone or other media files, you can choose an item from the phone's library or a recently imported file. The best part is that you can set up the phone's behavior as well. For example, when you associate an audio file with a contact, you can set it as a call or message ringtone. Also, if you schedule a new appointment, you can set your phone to vibrate.

Pros

You can exchange data between BitPim and a mobile phone, in both directions. You may create new contacts, add media files, schedule events and tasks and send them to your phone. It is also possible to make a few adjustments to the phone's behavior.

Cons

BitPim works exclusively with CDMA phones. BitPim enables you to send any data to and from your mobile phone, with nothing more than a few clicks.
